Your Christmas Playlist Calendar: What Should Your Customers Hear This BER Season?

The BER months are here, and for Filipino businesses, that means one thing: Christmas is officially in the air. Stores begin putting up decorations. Holiday products start appearing on shelves. Brands launch their Christmas campaigns. And, of course, the familiar Christmas songs slowly make their way into our playlists.

But here's a question worth asking:

Does your store have a Christmas playlist strategy—or are you simply pressing play on the same holiday songs every day?

Just like your promotions and visual merchandising, your in-store music can benefit from a little planning. Instead of treating Christmas music as background noise, consider creating a playlist calendar that gradually builds the holiday atmosphere throughout the season.

September is when the Christmas spirit officially starts creeping in.

But that doesn't mean your store needs to sound like Christmas morning from opening to closing.

Start with a mix of your regular upbeat playlist and a few familiar Christmas songs. Think of it as a soft launch for the season.

You can include feel-good holiday tracks that aren't too overwhelming and gradually introduce customers to the Christmas mood.

Playlist direction:

70–80% regular feel-good tracks

20–30% Christmas songs

Goal: Introduce the Christmas atmosphere without overwhelming customers.

By October, customers are becoming more accustomed to seeing Christmas promotions and seasonal products.

This is a good time to increase the presence of holiday music.

You can also experiment with different sounds depending on the occasion. For Halloween, for example, your playlist can temporarily include playful or spooky tracks before transitioning back into your Christmas selection.

Playlist direction:

60% regular music

40% Christmas songs

Goal: Make the store feel increasingly festive while keeping the playlist varied.

November is when Christmas shopping starts becoming more serious. With major shopping events and early Christmas preparations happening, your music can now play a bigger role in creating the holiday atmosphere. This is also the perfect time to introduce more recognizable Christmas favorites. From international classics like “Last Christmas” and “All I Want for Christmas Is You” to Filipino favorites such as “Star ng Pasko,” familiar songs can instantly make the shopping environment feel more seasonal.

Playlist direction:

30–40% regular music

60–70% Christmas songs

Goal: Create a stronger Christmas shopping atmosphere

Now it's officially crunch time.

Customers are buying gifts, preparing for parties, completing their Noche Buena shopping, and looking for last-minute presents.

This is the moment when your playlist can go all-in on Christmas. Mix upbeat holiday songs with nostalgic classics and Filipino Christmas favorites. You can also adjust the energy throughout the day—something more relaxed during slower hours and more upbeat music during peak shopping periods.

And don't forget your promotional messages.

Between songs, your in-store audio can remind shoppers about Christmas deals, new products, gift ideas, or special offers.

Playlist direction: 80–100% Christmas music

Goal: Make every visit feel like part of the Christmas shopping season.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day have a different energy. Instead of focusing purely on high-energy shopping music, consider creating a warmer, more nostalgic atmosphere.

This is where classic Christmas songs can shine.

Songs that remind customers of family, childhood, and holiday traditions can make the store environment feel more personal and welcoming.

Playlist direction: Christmas classics + Filipino favorites + warm, feel-good tracks

Goal: Create a comforting and familiar Christmas atmosphere.

Christmas doesn't end on December 25.

The days between Christmas and New Year's can bring another wave of shoppers—people spending gift money, looking for post-Christmas deals, preparing for New Year's celebrations, or simply enjoying the holiday break.

Shift the playlist toward more energetic and celebratory tracks.

Playlist direction: Upbeat Christmas songs + feel-good pop + celebratory tracks

Goal: Maintain the holiday energy while transitioning toward New Year.

Don't Just Play Christmas. Plan It.

A good Christmas playlist isn't about how many Christmas songs you can squeeze into four months. It's about timing, variety, and relevance. Just as your marketing calendar changes throughout the BER season, your in-store playlist can evolve with your customers.

  • September can introduce the mood

  • October can build anticipation

  • November can bring the Christmas excitement

  • December can deliver the full festive experience

And when music is paired with timely promotional announcements, your store audio can become more than entertainment. It can become another way to communicate with customers while they're already inside your store.
